Yard Candy: The Sweet Goodness of God

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Psalm 34:8

My backyard has flourished into a living pantry this year. Besides tomatoes, squash, radishes and an assortment of herbs, I have a variety of sugary fruit. Strawberries, blackberries, grapes, raspberries and citrus galore are there for my picking. Much of the sweet produce never makes it into the house, though, because I snack on the berries as I work around the garden. It’s my yard candy.

Isn’t God good that He gave us such delights that are nutritious AND delicious? God loves us so much that He provides for us, but not in a boring utilitarian way. He creates rich variety for our pleasure as well as our health.

He could have provided our sustenance through tasteless means but He enjoys giving us pleasure. Each bite in my yard is a reminder of God’s love. Each taste is a sign of His goodness. What a God we serve.

What reminds you of His love and goodness?

  1. Butterflies and sunsets... and my "ahh, God view" as I come over the hill on Marguerite each time to take in the vastness of the ocean view near where I live. Loved your sweet and simple reminder of God's goodness in the smallest details. And, your photo is yet another one of those Martha Stewart magazine ones.
  2. My husband's love and care...reminds me that God hears me and knows me.
