Wealth that won’t be lost

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Everything we have comes from God; He is the One who richly provides. Riches and wealth come in a variety of forms yet it all originates from Him. We may have material wealth, an abundance of time or even a particular skill. Since God is the giver we need to be humble and acknowledge Him.

Whatever it is that we have been given, we are told to do good with it, “be rich in good deeds.” We may financially support those with hands and feet on the ground in a particular area. We may give of our time in towards a particular work or in aiding others at home to free them to further work. Maybe we offer our unique skills and talents to advance a cause.

Be generous and willing to share. We usually think of money and goods when we hear this. But time is a valued commodity as well and those who have plenty can share to help a busy neighbor, organize an event, or visit a shut in. Are we generous with our skills? I’ve been grateful for those with technical or creative skills who have shared them to enhance WTWN.

Wealth of any kind is uncertain. Our trust and hope must remain in God. Riches may dissipate; circumstance or health may rob of us of time or abilities. But if everything we have is dedicated back to God, our treasure will never be lost. His Kingdom is the only sure investment.

Where are you wealthy? What are you generous with - money, time, talent?

Is there anything God has challenged you to share more of?

  1. Of these, most generous with time...hardest is money...I have a lot of room for growing there.

So interesting, I'm exactly the opposite. My time is harder for me to be generous with and I need to be reminded that God is the keeper of my calendar.
