Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground… Ephesians 6:13
When I get up in the morning and go to my closet, I have a choice in what I put on. On days I will be busy seeing patients, I have the option of wearing scrubs to work. I like that. It’s an easy decision because they are comfortable, useful and identify my role.
As believers, the daily decision of what to wear spiritually is available to each of us. We have the armor of God available but we are charged to put it on. That seems to imply we aren’t always wearing it, so maybe sometimes we are unprotected because we’re unprepared.
God has given me a uniform to prepare me for my daily spiritual work, which involves spiritual battle. It protects as well as identifies me. He has given me truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation and the Spirit. It’s up to me to dress appropriately each day, prepared for what lies ahead. My spiritual closet is full and I aim to be fully dressed.
What are you wearing today?
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:14-17
