And this is the promise that He made to us—eternal life. 1 John 2:25
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. Hebrews 10:23
When someone makes a promise we evaluate the value of the promise based on the person that is making it. There are some that are well intentioned, but we know they don’t have the capacity to fulfill the vow. Others might have the ability to keep the promise but they don’t have the integrity. Their promise is worthless. We value those that faithfully keep their word, but even then there will be times that we all fail.
I’ve been writing recently about God’s promises, such as the promised resurrection, but how do we know those promises are true? It is because we know the Promiser. God always fulfills His promise.
He has the ability to fulfill any promise.
Ah, Lord God! It is You who have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for You. Jeremiah 32:17
His character ensures He is faithful to keep His promises.
The Lord is faithful to ALL His promises and loving toward ALL He has made. Psalm 145:13.
Though God will always keep His promise, it may not look like what I imagined. In fact, it almost never does. But He fulfills them in His way and in His time, not mine. And it is always for good.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
I trust in the Promiser. Hallelujah! His promises are firm. And as one of His image bearers, seeking to follow Him, I strive to be a promise keeper as well.
In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began. Titus 1:2
