The Days are Coming

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when the plowman shall overtake the reaper
    and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed;
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
    and all the hills shall flow with it.
  Amos 9:13 ESV

This imagery of abundant blessings shows a reaper actually overtaking the sower, bringing in fruit quicker than it could even be replanted. Agriculturally, it’s an extraordinary situation. The blessings noted here are overflowing so fast they won’t be able to be counted.  Amos is prophesying during a time of judgment, but God promises to restore. After a cleansing, after a righting of injustice, God will make it right again - not just as good as it was, but even better.

Harvest imagery is often associated with the Kingdom. Amos is speaking to Israel but we get glimpses of our future here too. We are in chaos, we have experienced the fall, and judgment is coming. But for those in the Kingdom, there will be an abundance of blessings as He recreates His world.

I enjoy a multitude of blessings now – I can’t imagine such an overwhelming outpouring to come. My thoughts are constantly drawn forward as I eagerly anticipate what’s next.

“The days are coming.”  And I can’t wait.

“The days are coming, says the Lord,
“when the grain and grapes will grow faster
    than they can be harvested.
Then the terraced vineyards on the hills of Israel
    will drip with sweet wine!
Amos 9:13 NLT
