For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Romans 12:13
God tells us to be humble. I, like everyone else, like to think my opinions are correct, but being dogmatic discourages conversation, thwarts learning and can hinder relationship
I’m not talking about convictions based on God’s Word. It should go without saying that those are to be held tightly – yet expressed lovingly, with gentleness and charity. But we often hold to our opinions as tightly as our convictions and, sadly, can express them with callous regard.
I want to be open to change. Open to learning and growth. I need to listen more, assume less, ask more questions, and hold ideas and opinions loosely. There may be a better thought, or a new fact, right around the corner. Lord, give me the humility to change my mind when faced with truth from a different perspective.
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Romans 12:16
