This is the season of Advent, where we remember and look back, anticipating the arrival of our Lord and God in human flesh. That He came – amazingly – here for us.
But I should live every day in Advent, looking forward to the arrival of the Resurrected Jesus. The promised re-creation and renewal of all things has begun with His resurrection. Let me say that again – the anticipated new creation has begun in Him! As we look forward to His return and completion of this restorative work, the resurrection of His people and all of creation, we get the joy of participating. Chaos is to be reversed wherever He leads us – in relationship, asserting justice, or the protective stewarding of our world. All will someday be renewed – not just fixed but transformed into something new. It will be resurrected. And although we don’t yet experience our resurrected bodies, or the reunion with those who have gone before us, resurrection life has begun. It is here, yet we await its fulfillment.
I’m so grateful for this season that begins with a Baby and ends with an empty tomb. With great awe and privilege let us join with Him in His Kingdom building, His restorative work. We eagerly anticipate a new Heaven and a New Earth – joined together at last and full of life forevermore. Amen.
But according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which Righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13
