At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon. John 10:22-23
The Feast of Dedication that we know as Hanukkah celebrates God’s deliverance of His people once again. God vanquished their enemy and they reclaimed the desecrated Temple. The purification process took eight days and God miraculously provided their single day of lighting oil to last until the process was complete. We see that even in their obedience, it was God that provided the means for cleansing and sanctification.
This provides a beautiful picture for us. As the Church, we are now God’s Temple. He has delivered us and washed us clean from our sin. Hanukkah can be a time we, too, celebrate our renewal! Let’s join together in rededicating our lives and the Church to His good purpose.
Rejoice!
