Suppose I had wings like the dawning day and flew across the ocean. Even then your powerful arm would guide and protect me. Psalm 139:9-10
Many of us will be engaged in travel of some kind over the summer. Here are some thoughts for the road (or air!).
Pray
For Protection
Acknowledging God’s sovereignty and asking for His protection, provision and guidance as we travel puts us in His hands and with the right perspective.
For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11
The Lord will keep watch over your going out and your coming in, from this time and forever. Psalm 121:8
For Guidance
Not just on where to go but on what to do. How we live our life matters, even how we play. Do I truly believe He orchestrates circumstances, being in a certain place to bless or be blessed, to learn or be protected?
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground! Psalm 143:10
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9
For Opportunity
I want to have eyes that are open to do good around me, in big or small ways. I want to aid the mom traveling with an unruly stroller, bless the service workers I encounter, be an encouraging voice to the tired …
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10
Acknowledge
God is with us
We might be leaving behind work, our home, as well as some responsibilities, but the same God that led Israel goes with us wherever we go.
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
God precedes us
God is with us. And yet He is already there ahead of us. He knows what lies ahead because He is there. We can trust in Him.
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:8
God will work on our heart whether at home or away. I want to cooperate in that work. Now that our heart and mind are set, next week I want to explore some ideas to stay actively engaged.
Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. Proverbs 3:23
