God rescued His people from Egypt and led them into the wilderness. They were hungry while in bondage, never having enough. But God took them out and provided for them. They were able to eat their fill. But how He provided looked very unfamiliar. God gave them something they didn’t even recognize, manna.
Manna literally means “what,” or “what is it?” They had no idea what this substance was when they saw it. Yet it nourished them and met their need. They ate and were full. While in Egypt if they were dreaming or praying for a full tummy, it probably looked like a big lamb with lots of bread and wine. But that’s not how God chose to provide for them – at least not right then. And while they may have tired of it, this strange food kept them going for 40 years as they made it to a new season in their story.
God provides. Sometimes I don’t recognize it because it doesn’t look like what I’ve asked for or what I think I need. Sometimes I just say, “what?”, “what is this?” Yet it turns out to be what I need and it gets me through until He brings me to a new season..
Lord, help me trust in Your provision, Your timing, Your way. It is always best even when it doesn’t feel like it at the time. Thank you, even when I don’t know what You are doing – because I know You care and Your promises are true.
In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end. Deuteronomy 8:16
