He went to the mountain to pray

All through the text, God has created traditions for His people as pictures – reminders – to help us be obedient. The ancient rabbis were known to climb a steep mountain to pray for their disciples. It created a physical picture of hard work – and when they got to the top – they would draw on that picture and say “now I’m going to exert myself equally hard in praying for my disciples.”

Over the years, while developing a discipline of running, I’ve created a habit of my own. I sprint the last portion, giving everything I have left. It gives me a picture for my spiritual walk and reminds me to “end well.”

Do you have any habits that draw your mind back to God?

When I am on the stationary bike, I don't spend the time planning my day or even praying, but spend the time singing songs of praise - the time goes quickly and my mind is focused on God. Often the songs of praise run through my head throughout the day. (For those who know me, I don't sing out loud!!!)

This picture is Mt. Arbel - the traditional mountain that the rabbis would climb. It sits on the Sea of Galilee between Tiberias and Magdala.
