Our God is Holy. The word kadosh, that we translate holy, means separate, sanctified or other. God is different from, and also above, any other thing. He is beyond and is separated from all else.
The Lord of Hosts will be exalted in judgment,
And the Holy God will show Himself holy in righteousness. Isaiah 5:16
We have a God that is so distinct in His righteousness and His judgment the He alone is declared Holy. Not just Holy – but Holy, Holy, Holy. He is perfect and we are not. He is the Creator and so transcends His creation. His glory forces us to stand back in awe. We cannot comprehend His full essence.
The Spirit of God, the Ruach Ha’Kodesh, or Holy Spirit, bears that same distinction of Holiness in His very name. He is apart; He is other. Yet though our God is separate, the Spirit moves to dwell with us - even in us. He is separate but chooses not to be separated.
This Holy God loves us. What an amazing thing to grasp. He died to not be separated from us. He sacrificed to bring us near. My heart trembles in awe at the intimacy of my Holy God.
Day and night they never stop saying: “ ‘Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty,’who was, and is, and is to come.” Revelation 4:8
