In this pandemic season, we are fortunate to have technology at our fingertips. We can zoom meetings, family gatherings, and even social game nights. It’s a nice alternative, but it’s still an alternative. For special moments – whether celebrations or times of distress – we hunger for the real deal. There is no substitute for a hug or a touch or just the warmth of being next to someone.
We have a God that understands this; in fact, it’s how He made us. He could have set us in motion and watched from a distance, communicating only through prophets and hearing our prayers. Those are great, but nothing can take the place of a personal visit.
God Almighty came in person to be with us. Yes, to bring salvation only He can bring, but He took on a body of flesh because it’s important. Emmanuel, God with us. He walked this earth in bodily form to touch and be touched, to laugh, to cry, and to teach. And His Spirit dwells with us – even now. Not from a far away place accessible by prayer like a phone, but sitting with us right now in the midst of whatever we’re in.
I’m thankful I don’t have to set a zoom appointment with God. He lives with me, not at a distance but always at my side - actually inside. Because, while hearing from loved ones is great, being there is better than a call. I’m so glad He came.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:14
