Incline Your ear, O Lord, and answer me. Psalm 86:1
David makes this heartfelt plea of God to listen and act on his behalf. I have implored God for His attention as well. But I must remember that He makes the same request of me.
My son, attend to My words; incline your ear to My sayings. Proverbs 4:20
To incline the ear, I picture someone leaning forward with the intention to hear. It is focusing on the speaker and cutting out all the background noise. God does this for us. I want to listen to Him in the same way. Focus on His Word and commit to act on what I hear. I need to make space for some silence in prayer to hear what the Spirit is saying. Maybe I should lean forward in prayer as a reminder to incline my ear and catch every word.
When I pray, I’m grateful that I can expect Him to hear and respond. I’m learning to incline my ear toward Him as well.
