The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish. Isaiah 24:4
There are many things that we experience here that are difficult - death, loss, disease, broken relationships. This isn’t how the world was created and it is all part of the brokenness that happened when sin entered.
The world gone wrong is so easy to see in the face of unrestrained evil or death. But the truth is, even the very best of things here are not as they should be. They are still marred by imperfection and tarnished by corruption, though we may have the best of intentions. Only God brings perfection.
When faced with pain and suffering, I do well to remind myself that this isn’t what God intended. Yet though He didn’t cause it, He will in due time repair it. And in fact, He offers grace and mercy to sustain me through until then.
I wait eagerly, indeed my soul groans, for the day when all will be made right and we can experience things as they were created to be. Life as intended all along. Come, Lord Jesus.
I don’t think the sufferings we are going through now are even worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us in the future. The creation waits eagerly for the sons of God to be revealed; for the creation was made subject to frustration — not willingly, but because of the one who subjected it. But it was given a reliable hopethat it too would be set free from its bondage to decay and would enjoy the freedom accompanying the glory that God’s children will have.We know that until now, the whole creation has been groaning as with the pains of childbirth;and not only it, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we continue waiting eagerly to be made sons — that is, to have our whole bodies redeemed and set free. Romans 8:18-23
