Of Great Worth: Because He said so

God alone is worthy. He has inestimable worth, or value, because of Who He is. God is so above anything else we know He simply says, “I Am.”

Amazingly, God deems His followers to be worthy. A thing’s value is based on what we are willing to pay for it. He has assigned us great worth because of the high price He paid for us.

We are His handiwork and made in His image. This makes us priceless creations made by the Master and we bear His fingerprints. We may have marred or hidden His likeness but He restores what has been given back to Him.

Things also have value based on associations. An old cardigan might sell for a few bucks at the local thrift store - but the same cardigan, worn by Mr. Rogers, might fetch thousands. I have value because of Whose I am. I am a child of the King.

and giving joyful thanks to the Father, Who has qualified you (made you worthy) to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light.  Colossians 1:12

As treasured children of God, we also play a part. We are called to be worthy – to walk in a way befitting the value He has placed on us. We don’t behave in such a manner so as to become worthy but rather because we are worthy we should live accordingly.

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called.
Ephesians 4:1

God deems me worthy, not because I am, but because He has said I am.  So we live in the paradox, the tension. God makes us worthy but also calls us to be worthy. I can live with the confidence of my worth in His sight, that I am cherished, valued, and loved. And in that confidence, live a life, by the Spirit of God, worthy of bearing His Name and fulfilling His call.

To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of His calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by His power,so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.  2 Thessalonians 1:11

I love this. A real key to knowing who we are in Him, which determines how we will fulfill our destiny in Him.
