With the world in various levels of isolation today, a meaningful thread of Passion Week can be seen as Jesus makes a walk into aloneness.
His week started out surrounded by crowds calling for His coronation and singing His praises.
And the crowds that went before Him and that followed Him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” Matthew 21:9
But quickly those crowds left Him when He didn’t give them what they wanted.
But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that He be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. Luke 23:23
Then His disciples, afraid and confused, abandoned Him .
Then all the disciples left Him and fled. Matthew 26:56
And finally, hanging on the cross, He experienced the ultimate loss of His Father’s presence.
“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Mark 15:34
Yearning for friends and family during this season of isolation, I’m reminded that Jesus walked that path, too. On purpose. For me. If you are struggling with aloneness this year, be reminded of all that He sacrificed. And may it cause us to draw near to Him.
