Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1
Peace with God. That phrase recently caught my attention. We can have peace with the Almighty Creator of the universe who is holy and perfect and all knowing. Peace with the One whose glory and Presence would destroy me but for the blood of Jesus.
True peace, or shalom, is a shared wholeness and unity. It’s not that He is just withholding His righteous judgment against us, but that we have a true relational reconciliation - all at His expense. He has declared peace with us, with me.
Take a moment to reflect on that truth. God and I are at peace and it is because He has declared it so and made it happen.
Peace with God allows us to live with confidence and joy, no matter the circumstances. It allows my spirit and life to be at peace within. And it allows us to pursue peace with others at our expense, as modeled by Christ, so that they can experience God’s peace as well.
I’m going to bask in that peace today.
And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. Isaiah 32:17
