Pesach: Guarded by His blood

Pesach (Passover) comes from pey samech chet. These words can be translated as skip or leap, which is where we get the idea that He passed over (skipped) the houses with the blood. But the words also can mean protect or guard. The Pesach feast celebrates God’s protection for those who placed the lamb’s blood over their door.

God spared them by skipping over them. That is a passive act. He didn’t smite them. But He also actively guarded them, not only that night but also during their subsequent escape. He rescued them from bondage, leading them out to freedom.

In Pesach, God foreshadows Jesus, the Lamb, and His blood that saves us. We, as believers are marked with His blood and the judgment that we are due skips over us. But that is not all. We are actively being guarded; nothing can touch us that He doesn’t allow. And He brings us into a life of freedom with Him.

The blood stains on those doors identified those who feared God and I want my life to be marked in a similar way through Jesus’ blood. I want God’s story of protection and mercy to be seen by all. And I want everyone to know that it’s available to any who would be come under the blood of the Lamb.

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a Lamb without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1:18-19

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a Lamb without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1:18-19 This is such a powerful verse about God protecting us and redeeming us in THIS generation!
