For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
The title of Prince lets us know we’re talking about a kingdom and peace characterizes the realm under His reign.
A Prince holds great authority and power. He represents and rules over a kingdom, under the authority of the Father. Earthly kingdoms typically only have peace when there is a powerful and benevolent ruler. Weakness leads to strife. We are blessed to have an all-powerful Prince that can bring and keep peace.
Peace, or shalom, will reign. This is not just an outward peace but a wholeness and completeness that runs through everything. There will be no outward striving, but also a inward thriving health as well.
We celebrate the Child and also eagerly anticipate His reign of peace. His Kingdom starts now in our hearts, and in our world as we interact with it. It will expand as He works through us until the time that He returns in glory to complete and establish His kingdom of peace forever.
Come Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace.
