The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing… Isaiah 35:1-2
The stunning beauty of a desert in bloom is not just because of its visual splendor, but also because it seems unexpected. We typically experience the muted colors of sand and rock. Life is there – but it can be hidden. Yet when conditions are right, at its proper season, it explodes into colorful vitality.
We live much of our life here in a desert. But God gives us glimpses of the beauty waiting just under the surface to burst out. Our difficult wilderness seasons are punctuated with joyful reminders.
Some day the Messiah will bring restoration to His creation. The desert wilderness will blossom. We will find jubilance where we had forgotten hope. There will be gladness, abundance, and exquisite majesty. No more will life wither in the chaos of drought and want, but the Living Water will pour forth its bounty and we will join the dormant creation to rise up and praise our Maker.
… and the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Isaiah 35:10
