Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Ephesians 4:28
One of the many reasons we should work hard and be productive is so that we can be generous. The desire to provide for ourselves, through honest work, is a godly one. But being a good steward of what we earn also allows us to give, to be the conduit through which He cares for and blesses others.
A friend reminded me that some of those who have the least are the most generous. It may be because they relate with the need more. Whatever our occupation, our work can be a ministry if we see it as an opportunity for generosity.
All that I have was given by God, and that includes the ability and opportunity to work. That I have been given my work, not just for me but also for others, brings added meaning and joy to a hard day’s labor. May I learn to be generous in every way, in order to bring thanksgiving to God.
You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11
