Jesus was in the midst of telling His disciples that He was going away and expressing His desire for them to join Him. When they exclaimed that they didn’t know where He was going, much less how to get there, He replied with this:
I am the way, the truth, and the life. John 14:6
The Way. Jesus is the ONLY path to the Father (the destination.) There are no short cuts. There are no alternate paths. Jesus came from heaven, He sacrificed His life to satisfy the penalty of sin, and now, because of our imputed righteousness He is making a place for us with Him in the Father’s presence.
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12
The Truth. Jesus didn’t just teach the truth; He is the Truth. He manifests ultimate integrity. Who He is and what He said are completely consistent with each other. In a world where we’re not sure who or what to believe, He is the incarnate revelation of truth.
The Life. The Way leads us to the Father’s Presence, which is life. Eternal Life. There will be no sin, no untruth, no pain or tears. All things will be whole and wholly alive, never to decay again. Jesus embodies life as One who overcame death and then offers this life to us. He is resurrection and life.
Because I live, you also will live. John 14:19
Jesus is the only way to life. His promise is true because He is Truth. Following Him will lead us to life everlasting.
Lord, You have made a Way for me, You are the Way. Your promise of life is true. I’m grateful for that life and that I can experience it even now.
