Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. John 11:25
As Jesus comforted His grieving friends, He made this stunning declaration. “I AM the Resurrection and the Life”. Not, “we will be resurrected”, but “I AM.” He doesn’t just bring life – He IS life.
Jesus went on to prove who He was by raising Lazarus and then He proved it again by raising Himself.
Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. John 11:25-26
He did not say if you believe in the concept of the resurrection or eternal life, then you will live. He said whoever believes in Me. He is the source of life. It comes from Him.
And then He asked Martha,
“Do you believe this?” v 26
She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” v 27
We are all asked the same thing. "Do you believe this?"
When we don’t have all the answers, do we believe in Him? When facing death and despair, do we believe in the One who claimed to BE resurrection and life? Jesus said I AM resurrection and life because death had no power over Him.
But God raised Him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him. Acts 2:24
Because Jesus IS resurrection and life, we experience that life now. He has already conquered death. In fact, it was impossible for death to hold Him. Those who put their trust in Him walk not just in hope, but in the reality of eternal life now.
