Being Known: The Intimacy of God

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart for my holy purpose. I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5

We all long to be known. Really known. Sometimes it scares us so we hide. But God declares that He knows us at our very core. God speaks to our personhood, even before we are conceived.

He says:

I formed you. God gave us everything we would need for the life ahead of us. We are wonderfully made, whether our time is short or long. We will meet loved ones that God magnificently created that never saw life outside the womb. There are those who have been formed with varying abilities, according to God’s plan. We have everything we need to have relationship with Him. He formed us. And calls it good.

I knew you. He knew us, not just about us, but who we are before we were even conceived. He builds relationship and allows us to know Him in return.

I set you apart. He sanctifies us for His work before we are even born. His plan was already in action, His mosaic of glory already gave us a purposeful place. We are here for a reason. To know Him and to bring Him glory; to further His Kingdom and worship Him. Where I am and who I am is not accident.

I appointed you. He gives us a role – for His glory and our good. For Jeremiah, it was to be a prophet. We each have been appointed for certain purpose. Like stones of the temple, some are visible and grand, but some form the more important work, underground and unseen, of providing foundation, strength and stability.

I am awed at the sanctity of God’s creation in life. He knows me intimately though I sometimes hide. I want to live openly with purpose as one fully seen and equipped. And I want to honor God by treating every other person as one created and known by Him from the very beginning.
