No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God. Romans 4:20
Abraham believed God’s promise of an heir, despite his old age and Sarah’s as well. He hoped against hope and knew that the character and power of God could bring life. He affirmed his belief yet it also states that he grew in this faith. Trusting and praising God while yet waiting grew his faith. And a rise in faith expanded his praise.
It is a good reminder to me that these go hand in hand. Praise is the remedy of doubt. We are told that he grew strong AS he gave glory to God. I think this is, in part, what it means to train our hearts and minds. When struggling against disbelief, in the form of fear or doubt, the discipline of giving glory to God will increase our faith. And I pray, through the help of the Spirit, we grow stronger day by day and marvel as we tell one another of God’s goodness and power.
