Have you seen the dog food commercial where the little girl promises to her puppy, “I’ll always take care of you?” A montage follows giving snippets of their life until the pup is old and gray. Having just made that promise to my new companion, I still feel like that little girl inside.
We promise to care for those we love, the family and friends we are committed to. It is the desire of our heart to fulfill that promise and a privilege when we do. But we do so imperfectly, even with the best of intentions.
God loves us more than we can imagine – our love of our pets, the love of each other, and even our love of God Himself is a vapor compared to His great love for us. God says He will care for us and He has both the character and the power to do so. How great is that – that we’ve been adopted into His loving arms.
God looks lovingly at me and promises to care for me. And that overwhelms me more than any sentimental commercial could. I receive God’s love as His cherished creation and object of His desired relationship. It is because of His love that I can care for others. Thank you, Lord, that I can rest in Your care.
I am your God and will take care of you
until you are old and your hair is gray.
I made you and will care for you;
I will give you help and rescue you. Isaiah 46:4
