In the beginning God created …
God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day…
… And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day...
… And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day…
… And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day…
… And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day…
… God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day…
… Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done. Revelation 1-2
Sabbath, the seventh day, is a picture for us to observe – a weekly reminder of our dependence on Him. But it also points ahead.
There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. Hebrews 4:9
God hinted at a never-ending Sabbath from the beginning. Of all the days of creation, the seventh has no evening or morning mentioned.
There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. Revelation 22:5
This promised coming Sabbath will find us resting in His work alone. There will be meaningful activity but no toil, fellowship with no division, God’s presence with no veil. The feast will be served and the Son that has arisen won’t ever go down. And that was His plan from the beginning. Shalom.
