He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Matthew 28:6
Jesus told His disciples that He would rise again.[1] And He did. It was just as He said - but it wasn’t as they thought. Because it didn’t come about as they had planned, they were unsure and the angels had to show them, “come, look.” The subtitles in my head hear the angels as they roll their eyes, “come on people – He told you about this!”
I know that Jesus is a promise keeper. But I get sidetracked at times because, though things happen just as He said, it is not just as I imagined.
God said He would be with me. He is – but not in ways I thought I wanted. God said He will provide for me. He does, but it doesn’t look how I planned.
Some day we will have a new heaven and a new earth. I’m sure it won’t be anything like what I can imagine and yet it will fulfill exactly what He has said. And those merciful angels will walk us through, knowing it is so grand we need to be shown, and say, “Come, look. Here it is, just as He said.”
We have a glorious God and His every word is a promise. There are lots of things coming – heaven, new creation, seeing Him face to face – that won’t be how I imagine. BUT as I experience the “just as HE said” moments today, it bolsters my faith in the things that haven’t come about – yet. Wonder what it will look like!
