I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you. Ephesians 1:18
I often ask God for eyes to see, meaning I want to see His perspective, see the world as He does. The lens of God’s heart is big, loving, forgiving and just.
Recently, I had cataract surgery and received a new lens, literally giving me fresh eyes. Though I still see the same items, albeit clearer, I am struck with the difference in color. Everything is brighter and more brilliant. They are as they should be.
The extent that I had been seeing through such a dusty filter was surprising. It is easy to discern the difference since I have one eye done and one eye still to go. I wonder if that is in a small way how, when we come to Him, God gives us new spiritual eyes. He removes the filter of sin that discolors and darkens things. And we see as it should be. It is brighter and we see His glory more easily reflected.
I am grateful for physical repair. I see differently now. Better. But I’m more thankful for His restoration of my soul. There are many that live with limitation of their vision, probably including even Paul. But their spiritual eyes can be strong as they await new eyes at their resurrection. I pray God continues to heal the eyes of my heart, giving me eyes to see - without a filter that has been marred by sin. My physical sight is a gift and may come and go, but the real gift comes to those who have had new eyes opened by the Spirit.
