Fear not, Abram, I am your Shield; your reward shall be very great. Genesis 15:1
Where do you seek safety in times of danger? I need to be reminded that I can always find shelter with God, Who is my Shield.
Magen, the Hebrew word translated shield or defense, is found frequently in the Bible. It is used by God for Himself and by others describing God.
A shield is used to protect, defend and even to cover. Its use implies combat of some type. You don’t really need a shield if you’re not in a battle. As Christians, we find ourselves in battles every day. We are in a fight for the Kingdom as well as a battle over our flesh.
It is important that a shield is stronger than the weapon being used against it. What comfort that Almighty God, the all powerful One, is my Shield. Nothing can penetrate what He has covered.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped. Psalm 28:7
