What’s in a name

I enjoy reading the names of people and places in the Bible with their translation. In eastern culture the meanings are much more…um, meaningful. They tell who or what you are. They tell a story. When I began to go through my Bible and look up each one as I went, I was hooked right from the beginning.

Check out the message found in Genesis 4:16:

"Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden."

Cain went away from the presence of the Lord. And where did he end up? In Nod. Nod means wandering. When we try to escape from God, when we reject His presence, our inevitable situation is one of wandering.

What interesting names or meanings have you run across?
