Jehovah-Rapha, Part 3: The God who Heals

Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise. Jeremiah 17:14

The third area that God intervenes to heal is our relationships. First and foremost is our relationship with Him. This healing is available to all who ask and is accomplished by Him alone. It is freely ours to accept.

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:10-11

God created us also for community. Once we are made right with God, we are able to experience healing in our relationships with each other. Following His example, we can love without expectation of something in return. We were forgiven, so we can forgive.

And God uses community, His church, in the healing process. The healing of our soul and our relationships are dependent on each other. A healthy soul allows closer relationships and through healthy relationship we experience further healing of our soul. Only through the touch and guidance of the Spirit can we fully move that direction.

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6

God desires our whole being to be strong and healthy - our body, soul, and relationships. Tragically, the sin of the world - including our own – has wreaked havoc and destruction on every area of our life. The healing He brings to us may be instant, through growth and grace, or promised in eternity. God doesn’t always repair the physical destruction that sin has wrought here, but He is quick to reconcile the souls of those who call upon Him. Those of us who trust in Him will ultimately experience His full healing over every area of our life, and I’m grateful that it begins now.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 2
