Master Gardener

“… my Father is the Vinedresser.” John 15:1

Do you have a green thumb? I enjoy being in the garden but don’t really know what I’m doing. I’ve uprooted a bush or two and moved them around the yard – usually because I planted them in the wrong place to start with. The roots were torn and severed in the process and needed to start over again. They suffered. Some haven’t made it. Those that did took awhile to bloom again.

God, Creator of all things, is the Master Gardener. He knows exactly where to plant - for the good of the plant as well as the garden. As the garden grows and changes, He may move things around – not because they were misplaced but because He is optimizing growth. It is all planned according to season. In His garden, everything works together for His good pleasure and its beauty.

The Chief Vinedresser has placed me in His garden. He knows exactly where He wants me and has planned a place for me. If I try to uproot myself and move out of His plot, I’m bound to wither. Even if He returns me to my rightful spot, it might take awhile to bloom again. I’ve done some damage. But if the Master Gardener moves me, He has a plan. He has prepared the transplanting soil just right. It will likely prove uncomfortable and it may take awhile for my roots to take. But I will bloom more abundantly in my new spot.

God knows where He wants me. I might pick a spot that looks lush and inviting, but He has a spot designed just for me. Maybe He wants me to provide shade for some other bloomers or I need some more direct Son light to flourish. He alone knows where I will grow best and where I fit into the landscape.
