Do you need a visit?

Have you had visitors recently? Usually visitors come for fun and relationship. It’s a step out of the normal activities and a welcome break. If you are fortunate, you may have a friend or two who will also visit you in your time of trouble. Someone who will step right in and attend your need.

Pakad is a Hebrew word that is, in some places, translated as visit. God visits His people. He attends to them. This can be a favorable visit - or He can visit judgment upon someone. It shows His intervention in a situation. This same word can be translated as overseer and is used of Joseph in Egypt. The picture I have is someone coming in from outside to take charge.

In Genesis, when God visited Sarah He opened her womb and she became pregnant.[1] Ruth records God visiting the Israelites and how He provided for them. The Almighty oversees all things and came and attended to their particular need.

I know God is always with me. In fact, He lives within. But I’m also glad that in His great mercy, He may visit me as well.

Then she arose with her daughters in law that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited His people in giving them bread. Ruth 1:6

[1] Genesis 21:1
