Run…wait?

We talked last week about exertion and running hard. Even Apostle Paul draws on that dramatic picture of our spiritual journey. And it encourages us to keep going, even though it’s tough – don’t stop, keep focused, exercise, train, even through the pain, go for the prize. Our journey is not an easy one.

But if I run hard, as a picture of working diligently in bringing the Kingdom for His glory, shouldn’t I also sit and be still before Him – at least even as a picture. WAIT ON GOD!  Isn’t that an equally valid picture?

The harder it is to sit still before God – the more it is needed. Our busy lives can give us a false sense of control – accomplishing what we feel is important. God can and does use our silent time before Him – while we're waiting, listening, submitting. But even if He didn't - it still serves as a reminder, a picture, of our reliance on Him – on HIS work, not our own. All good things come from HIM. I need to be reminded. I think I’ll go be still.

What does “being still” look like in our busy culture?

Be still and know that I am God - why is it so hard to be "still" and so much easier to be "busy?""
