The Invitation of the Resurrection

In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5

The good news of the resurrection announces victory over death. It is the offer of life everlasting for those who believe. In using the language of family, Peter proclaims the Resurrection is an invitation into God’s household.

New Birth – through the resurrection we are reborn. This begins life in the family of God. As a new creation I am different – I’m not a slave to my past and I have a new future. The power of the resurrection begins change now.

Inheritance – as a child of God, I partake in an inheritance that will be given some day. I can live with boldness and confidence today because I know that my forever is secure.

If we look at the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus as a voucher ticket to heaven to be used later, we miss the invitation now. He holds the door open to come into the family, to belong. Our transformation to the family likeness begins now. It begins now! And our future is more precious than gold.

He is risen!

He says, “come.” I say, “YES!”
