Best Hour of the Year: A glimpse of glory

Christmas Eve typically finds our far-flung family back together with my parents. As we sit together at church, filling an entire pew and more, my mom says it’s her favorite hour of the year. Soaking up her family together, her heart is full of gratitude to God for each person and the way they follow Him.

This year, with my great-nephew sitting on my lap, mesmerized by the happenings up front, his great-grandpa leaned over to kiss his forehead. Delighted, the toddler leans over to him over and over again for another kiss, smiling and giggling.

Standing to sing and worship together, I wondered if this was a glimpse of heaven – of eternity. The family is together – God’s family – worshipping Him. We will bear the exuberance and confidence of a child knowing they are fully loved.

Our family has been blessed beyond measure. We know some of those seats won’t always be occupied as we wish, but the joy and glory that we glimpse today will be fulfilled in perfection in His time. I hope to see you at that great family gathering some day, too. Let’s sing together and lean over for just one more kiss from the Father.

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God1 John 3:1
