Are you superstitious?

Most of us would probably answer no. But do our actions say something different?

I’m not concerned with bad luck on Friday the 13th and I’m not afraid to walk under ladders. But I have hesitated to speak at times for fearing it would be jinxed, although I’d never use that language. “I hate to say it out loud, but things are going smoothly so far” as we hope it continues. "Knock on wood." Why do I say things like that, even in jest?

Words matter. It’s time to search my spiritual life and look for any remnants of this. Am I careful to ask God about something in a particular way ? What words do I feel like I must include? Do I attribute bad news to something I’ve done – or not done?

God is not a magic vessel that performs when the right incantation is made. He’s also not looking to zap us the moment we cut short a quiet time or miss church.

Fortunately, God wants a relationship with us - not a transaction. We can approach Him at any time, with or without all the bells and whistles of our religious expression. Yes, we have traditions and habits that can be helpful but if we rely on those instead of the character of Almighty God our faith is tragically misplaced.

Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; 1 Timothy 4:7

Great heart check Jen. I can relate to using those "innocent" phrases and having those thoughts in my head. Great reminder that God wants a relationship with us...he's not about zapping us to shape our actions in game-like way.
