Living in the Howevers

Do you ever think something is too good to be true? Usually that is a good radar against a scam. What about the promises of God? Can they seem too good to be true?

Confronted with the incredible fulfillment of God’s Promised Land, the Israelites walked right up to the border - and then looked for the catch.

We came to the land to which You sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Numbers 13:27-28

However.

God – this is a really great what you promised HOWEVER there are also tough things.

I live in the howevers too often.

God promises something:

However – I’m not sure it was meant for me, too

However – I’m afraid

However – I'm not enough

The howevers represent a lack of faith. It concentrates on the giant and not the character and power of God. It is a hedge against the plain truth, the promise that comes before it.

God is bigger than all my howevers and I need to remember that. I want to be like Joshua and Caleb that brought the news WITHOUT a however. They still saw the same giants, and the same hard path. Joshua and Caleb didn’t deny the obstacles; they just believed God would still deliver.

What are your howevers?
